Cape Town gang unit seizes mandrax worth R1.5 million in Mitchells Plain

The Cape Town Anti-Gang Unit found 30 000 mandrax tablets in a residence in Mitchells Plain. A 43-year-old woman was arrested.

Anti-Gang Unit members in Cape Town made a sizeable drug bust in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town on Thursday, 12 January. The provincial police service said the arrest and seizure was a reward for its efforts to “break the back of gangsterism and related crimes” in the Western Cape.

MANDRAX BUST IN CAPE TOWN

Colonel Andre Traut said the Anti-Gang Unit reacted to intelligence and searched a property in Montana Street, Colorado Park in Lentegeur.

The police found and confiscated 30 000 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R1.5 million. A 43-year-old woman, the occupant of the searched residence, was arrested for alleged drug dealing.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 January, on the mentioned charges.

“Our investigation surrounding the circumstances of the arrest and seizure are still underway and the possibility of more arrests is not ruled out,” said the police spokesperson.

In an unrelated incident in Cape Town, two suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in the vigilante killing of five men in Delft, on Friday. The deceased were reportedly accused of committing crimes in the area.
