Between 60 and 90 missing people cases are recorded per month by Missing Children South Africa (MCSA). The organisation’s statement follows news of a two-month-old baby who was taken from her pram at a retail store. The incident occurred in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town.

More and more missing person cases are making headlines in SA

In another headline-making missing person case, Godrich Gardee’s daughter, Hillary, was reported missing. The former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) secretary-general’s family have offered a R100 000 reward.

Gardee was last seen at a retail store in Nelspruit. It’s been reported that she and her daughter went missing just before the weekend. Hillary’s daughter was found on the same day stranded on a street.

There is no 24 hour waiting period to report a case

Bianca Van Aswegan from Missing Children South Africa shared that people should report a missing person case as soon as possible. Van Aswegan explained that within 48-hours, there is a possibility that a person can be human trafficked to another country.

She went on to explain that there is no need to wait for 24 hours to report a case. The faster a case is reported, the faster action can be taken, reports EWN. This is especially true in cases of missing children, she added.

“People still believe they need to wait 24hrs that does not exist. The quicker the case is reported the quicker action can be taken especially when it comes to children because the first 24hrs to 48hrs are crucial when a child goes missing. Especially with human trafficking, that has escalated in our country, and we have also been declared as a human trafficking hub by the US department of state,”

said Van Aswegan.

Have you seen this child? Gauteng SAPS now offering a R50 000 reward

Police in Gauteng are offering a cash reward of R50 000 to anyone that can provide them with useful information about the missing schoolgirl Amahle Thabethe – who disappeared in 2019.

It has been almost three years to the day since the girl, who was aged eight at the time of her disappearance, was last seen. Thabethe was allegedly snatched by an unknown male suspect while playing with her friends.

However, no body has ever been found, and there has yet to be a positive identification in this case. SAPS are hoping that this new cash incentive will bring forward a number of witnesses who can help revive the investigation. Read the full story here.
