Following a traumatic week in South Africa, the SA Police Service (SAPS) have issued an alert for a missing girl in the Western Cape. Shariefa Adams, a 12-year-old from Robertson, was reported missing on Monday. Now the authorities are going public in their hunt for the child.

Both SAPS and Missing Children SA have shared posts pleading for information about the whereabouts of Adams. She has been missing for the past five days, but it was only in the last 48 hours when a member of her family decided to raise the alarm. The police have since issued the following statement:

“Robertson police are seeking the assistance of the public to trace 12-year-old Shariefa Adams, who was last seen leaving her Robertson home on Friday 30 August 2019, to go to a local shop in the area. She was reported missing by her grandmother on Monday 2 September 2019.”

Recent case provides hope

With a dark cloud hanging over South Africa at the moment, the past seven days have at least seen one silver lining: The kidnapping of Amy-Lee de Jager came to a safe resolution, after the primary school pupil was abducted outside of the school gates in Vanderbijlpark. She was reunited with her family on Monday.

We’re all hoping and praying that the Shariefa Adams investigation comes to a similarly satisfying conclusion, too.
