At least 23 people including 15 minors were injured when a bakkie overturned and collided with another vehicle on the M27 near Waterloo.

At least 15 minors were among 23 people injured after a bakkie overturned on the M27 near Waterloo in KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident happened on Friday, 31 March. 

MINORS INJURED IN WATERLOO

According to private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) its members arrived on scene at approximately 19:24 and discovered the injured seated on the side of the road.

RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram said it was established that a silver Isuzu bakkie the minors were travelling in overturned before a silver Hyundai i10 collided with it.

Balram said the occupants of the bakkie sustained mild to moderate injuries and were transported to hospital privately, while the occupants of the light motor vehicle were not injured.

“Circumstances leading up to the incident were not established,” he said.

EIGHT KILLED IN LIMPOPO CRASH

Eight people were killed in a motor vehicle accident in Limpopo on Saturday, 1 April. The horrific crash occurred along the N1 Highway northbound towards Musina.

The Limpopo Transport Department said a taxi and bakkie were involved in the accident. The taxi allegedly attempted an unsafe overtaking manoeuvre on the barrier line and crashed into the bakkie.

“Five men and three women make up eight of those who lost their lives. Eight other people who sustained injuries are being transported to nearby health facilities for medical attention,” said the provincial department of transport and community safety.

The road was temporarily closed, and motorists were urged to use alternative routes.
