The eThekwini Metro results are in and the ANC has lost its outright majority. The party is in control but needs to find at least 15 more seats from coalition partners if it wants to rule.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) announced the final results of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal. The ANC remains the leading party but it lost 30 seats in comparison to the 2016 Local Government Elections.
According to the IEC Municipal Election Results Dashboard, 100 percent of the votes in the metro have been finalised:
875 of 875 Voting Districts completed
111 of 111 Wards completed
1 of 1 Municipalities completed
222 of 222 Seats allocated
In 2016, the eThekwini had 219 seats up for grabs and the ANC won an outright majority with 126 seats.
In 2021, 222 seats were available and the ANC won 96 – shedding 30 seats. However, the party leads the council and said it would look towards smaller parties as potential coalition partners.
