Buffalo City Election Results | 100 percent complete: ANC retains metro, adds seat

The ANC retained control of the Buffalo City Metro in the Eastern Cape. The party improved on its performance in the 2016 elections and now holds 61 out of 100 seats on the council.

The African National Congress (ANC) retained control of the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality in the Eastern Cape, which is home to East London, Bhisho, King William’s Town, Mdantsane and Zwelitsha.

BUFFALO CITY 100% COMPLETE

According to the IEC Municipal Election Results Dashboard, 100 percent of the votes in the metro have been finalised:

351 of 351 Voting Districts completed

50 of 50 Wards completed

1 of 1 Municipalities completed

100 of 100 Seats allocated

WHO WILL BE ON THE COUNCIL?

The ANC won 58,7 percent of the vote in Buffalo City in the 2016 Local Government Elections, which earned it an outright majority on the council with 60 seats.

In 2021, the party did marginally better – 59,43% – and picked up an additional seat. The DA was quite a way behind in second place with 19,52 percent of the vote and 20 seats.
