The days leading up to former president Jacob Zuma’s resignation might have triggered some nervous times for certain ministers in his cabinet with fears that the administration that would step in would not be as kind on them.

One minister who, by his own admission, would like to be excluded from that narrative is Police Minister Fikile Mbalula or, as he rather aptly calls himself these days, “Mr Fearfokkol“.

Mbaks took to Twitter on Wednesday night, moments after Zuma confirmed his resignation from the country’s highest office, to thank him for allowing him to serve in his cabinet.

“Thank you President Zuma for giving me a chance to serve and exhibit my talents it was a privilege indeed not a right,” he Tweeted.

Following Cyril Ramaphosa’s election as president of South Africa on Thursday, Mr Fearfokkol was back at it on Friday morning, stating that he is prepared for whatever the new administration may throw at him – even if it’s him being thrown out of Cabinet.

After leading the ANC Youth League until the ripe old age of 36, Mbalula made his first foray into Cabinet during Zuma’s first term in office, succeeding the late Rev. Makhenkesi Stofile as Minister of Sports and Recreation in 2010.

He served under that portfolio for almost seven years until one of the former president’s more controversial reshuffles in March 2017, in which he assumed office as Minister of Police, succeeding Nkosinathi Nhleko.
