Mbalula jokes he would engage Carl Niehaus, but he left

Newly elected ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says he would have spoken to Carl Niehaus had he not left the party.

The newly elected African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula jokes that he would have spoken to Carl Niehaus had he not resigned from the ANC.

Laughing was laughing out loud saying it is a pity that had left.

He said his education in the ANC has taught him not to chase people around in the ANC but instead talk to them.

“I am occupying a special position which is the secretary general.

The secretary-general does not do what he likes, leads the party, unites the party, and then speaks even to people who do not want to talk to him.

He says it’s a pity Niehaus left just as he arrived.

Carl Niehaus has resigned from the ANC after 43-years of membership with the party.

He posted a media statement on his twitter page discussing the resignation on 23 December 2022.

Niehaus took to his social media account on Monday, 2 January to hint he’s launching and building a new broad civil society and political movement that will work for the full liberation of the people of South Africa.

Mbalula said he would have engaged Niehaus. I would have been sitting on him not as Mbalula on twitter, but as secretary general. But he left,” he said.

Mbalula says the ANC does not chase people around, instead they talk to them and engage them.

“I would not have been here if somebody did not talk to me,” Mbalula said.

He said Kgalema Motlanthe organised for him to visit the late Adelaide Tambo, Albertina Sisulu and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela who gave him lessons about the organisation, including the leaders of the organisation.
