The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has labelled former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter as a ‘naysayer’ and challenged him to come forward with evidence of political corruption within Eskom.

DE RUYTER MUST PROVE THE CORRUPTION

Mbalula was responding to comments made by De Ruyter in an interview with e. TV journalist Annika Larsen, in a show titled My Guest. In the interview, De Ruyter alleged widespread corruption at Eskom was being masked and protected by the ANC.

Eskom clapped back by immediately releasing De Ruyter from his CEO duties on Wednesday, 22 February 2023.

Mbalula said De Ruyter had failed in his mandate to turn Eskom around, and instead, he began moving into politics, as reported by eNCA.

“The corruption happened under his watch when he was the CEO,” Mbalula said.

DE RUYTER FAILED TO TURN ESKOM AROUND

He added that De Ruyter’s claims are baseless and asked why he only mentioned it now on his way out.

“In undertaking this task and fighting poverty, unemployment inequality load shedding crime and corruption, we will not be deterred and side-tracked by utterances of nay shares such as the outgoing Eskom CEO,” said Mbalula.

He said the comments of De Ruyter are entirely unacceptable.

“If he wants to become a political player and undermine the efforts of patriotic South Africans, then let him say so publicly and declare for all to know who he is aligned with.”
