Despite being the group most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the matric class of 2022 exceeded expectations with a whopping 80.1% pass rate and the Department of Basic Education honoured some of the top achievers.
Basic Education MEC, Angie Motshekga had a celebratory breakfast with the top achievers and their parents in Randburg, Gauteng on Thursday, 19 January.
MATHEMATICS
The Western Cape was represented by two learners in first and third position while KwaZulu-Natal was represented by a learner in second position.
PHYSICAL SCIENCES
KwaZulu-Natal was represented by two learners in first and second position while Limpopo took third place.
TECHNICAL MATHEMATICS
In this subject, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Free State took first, second and third position respectively.
TECHNICAL SCIENCES
Gauteng, Free State and Mpumalanga also took first, second and third positions respectively.
