Mass farm murder: Seven ‘brutally shot and killed’ in Free State

Six women and a young man were found dead in their house on the farm by the farm owner on Friday, said Free State police.

The police in the Free State have launched a manhunt for the unknown suspects behind a mass farm murder in the Lismor Farm District, Kestell. The bodies of seven farmworkers were found inside their home on Friday, 15 July.

MASS FARM MURDER IN FREE STATE

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said the victims included six women and one young man.

The farm owner allegedly discovered the lifeless bodies of the farmworkers in their house on the farm on Friday.

Makhele said the victims were “brutally shot and killed by unknown suspect(s).” The motive for the mass farm murder is unknown at this stage.

 “The names of deceased and their ages are not yet known and couldn’t be disclosed as their next-of- kin has not yet identified them formally,” said the police spokesperson.

Lieutenant-General Baile Motswenyane, the Free State police commissioner, ordered the urgent mobilisation of “maximum resources” to track down the suspects.

“I instructed the team to work around the clock… let me warn the perpetrators that they can run but ultimately the mighty hand of the law will catch up with them.

“Our condolences to the families of these victims who lost their loved ones in this horrible manner,” said Motswenayane during a visit to the crime scene.
