Mashaba resolute, refuses to back down over comments about illegal immigrants

Herman Mashaba refuses to back down following comments he made about illegal immigrants being criminals. This despite the department of home affairs – yeah, the same department that stands accused of selling immigration papers for bribes – lashing out at him for painting all illegal immigrants with the same brush.
Mashaba – who believes those who aren’t living in Johannesburg legally should be targeted – refuses to back down on his original comments, adding everyone must stick to the rule of law.
“People who are in our city illegally, whether you are South African or someone from outside, please respect our laws when you are [in our] city. If you do not we’ll have a challenge. Our law enforcement agencies deal with cases on a daily basis of students being robbed and when they find people, they find them with no papers whatsoever,” Mashaba said, adding that foreigners living in Jozi must have the documents to prove they have the right to be there.
