Fransman, under who’s leadership the ANC in the Western Cape has limped from one embarrassment to another has, for now at least, had his party membership suspended. The ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) found the former provincial chair guilty on two charges of misconduct.

In a statement released on Thursday, the ANC said Fransman had been found guilty of “abusing his office for the purpose of attempting to obtain a sexual favour from Louisa Wynand, and for making public statements which brought the ANC into disrepute.”

“The NDC found both charges to be very serious and suspended his ANC membership for 5 years,” the statement read, adding that Fransman hadn’t even bothered showing up for his hearing; showing “no remorse for his misconduct.”

The party added that Fransman’s behaviour towards women “showed no political understanding of one of the fundamental objectives of the ANC… the support for and advancement of women’s emancipation.”
