The Maritzburg College students who were criticised for showing their support towards the EFF have been lauded by the political party, after smashing their matric results and passing with distinctions.

What did the Maritzburg students do wrong?
The school had initially planned to bring disciplinary action against the three students, fearing that they had brought the institution into disrepute. However, the KZN department of education put a halt to the proceedings, protecting the trio’s rights to exercise free speech.
Fast forward three months, and the lads are in the headlines for all the right reasons. Between them, they all managed to pass matric with eight distinctions: Olwethu took four distinctions, whereas Yamkela and Aphiwe took home two A-grades each. Needless to say, they were over the moon with their achievements.

EFF acknowledge supporters’ matric results
The Maritzburg students have enjoyed vocal backing from the party’s top brass since the ‘disciplinary incident’, and they were on hand again to reciprocate the support. Party spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi shared his congratulations on social media:

The message was also retweeted by Julius Malema and the party’s official Twitter account. These next-generation red berets have certainly given themselves the foundations to make a name for themselves again in the future.
