Mannequin murder: Homeless man beaten to death with figure

A vagrant was allegedly beaten to death with a mannequin in Korsten, Gqeberha on Tuesday morning. The police say the suspect ran off with the figure.

The police in the Eastern Cape are investigating the alleged murder of a vagrant who was killed on Tuesday morning, 2 November. According to the report, the 60-year-old victim was assaulted with a mannequin in Korsten, Gqeberha.

MAN KILLED WITH MANNEQUIN

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said detectives from the Gelvandale station are asking for the community’s help to trace down a murder suspect.

The suspect allegedly repeatedly assaulted his victim with a mannequin early on Tuesday in Durban Road, Korsten.

“It is alleged that at about 02:30 this morning, a sleeping vagrant was awoken by the suspect,” said the police spokesperson.

“When the suspect realised that he was not the person he was looking for, he then approached a male, approximately 60 years old, who was sitting on stairs and started to assault him with the mannequin.”

According to the police report, the suspect ran off with the mannequin after assaulting the victim who later succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene. The victim’s identity is unknown, according to Naidu.

The police are investigating a case of murder and anyone who may be able to help them identify the deceased or provide information about the suspect’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Gelvandale SAPS station at 041-402-2019/19 or Crime Stop at 08600-10111.
