Man fighting for his life after vehicle crashes into tree on Christmas

Paramedics said the man is fighting for his life after his vehicle crashed into a tree in Orkney on Christmas morning.

A man is fighting for his life after his vehicle crashed into a tree in Orkney on Christmas morning.

WHAT HAPPENED ON CHRISTMAS MORNING?

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, the man is in his 40s.

“The man was critically injured when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to crash into a tree on the Two-Shaft Road in Orkney.

“Paramedics arrived before 12h00 to find a light motor vehicle against a tree on the side of the road. Other motorists had stopped and managed to pull the man from the car,” Meiring said.

THE MAN SUSTAINED SEVERAL INJURIES

He said paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained several injuries, leaving him in a critical condition.

“The man was treated and provided with several advanced life support interventions before he was transported to a private hospital for urgent care.

“Local authorities were on the scene for further care,” Meiring concluded.

Meanwhile, five people were killed on Friday when an SUV got a tyre burst and crashed head-on with two oncoming vehicles.

THE MULTI VEHICLE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON THE N1

“On the N1 near Middlefontein (Kranskop area), an SUV got a tyre burst and crashed head-on with an oncoming vehicle and SUV,” it said.

Five people died on the scene and on the way to the hospital, while two others sustained very serious injuries.

FIVE PEOPLE WERE DECLARED DEAD ON THE SCENE

“Four of the deceased were in the SUV which tyre burst and the fifth victim was in the hatchback.”
