Third prison escapee re-arrested after asking community for food

The escapee reportedly asked members of the Seven Fountains farming community for food on Sunday night, 23 October.

Another suspect who escaped from a Correctional Services facility in Makhanda, Eastern Cape was re-arrested on Sunday, 23 October. Three of the seven escapees have now been caught by the police.

ANOTHER MAKHANDA PRISON ESCAPEE NABBED

The team tasked with tracking down the escapees received word about a possible suspect who allegedly asked members of the Seven Fountains farming community for food.

“A task team immediately followed up the leads, and within 30 minutes, they re-arrested a third escapee, Trymore Chauke in Seven Fountains,” said Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli.

The police said members of the community should continue to alert them about suspicious individuals. Four of the escapees remain at large.

The first escapee, Bennet Kwarrie, was re-arrested in Bloemfontein, Free State on the same day as the prison break – 18 October.

The second fugitive, Simba Masinga, was caught hiding in bushes near Committees on Wednesday, 19 October.

The circumstances surrounding the escape from the Waainek Correctional service facility remain under investigation. According to reports, the escapees may have used a hacksaw to cut their way out.
