Maitland Flying Squad members arrested a man with thousands of crayfish tails.

Members of the Maitland police Flying Squad arrested a 21-year-old male suspect and confiscated crayfish tails valued at R1.7 million.
The members were following up on information about crayfish tails at an address in Belhar, Arrive Alive reported.

The Flying Squad members swooped in, searched the premises, and seized 3 864 crayfish tails worth R1.7 million. According to Arrie Alive, the crayfish tails were found in a fridge in the house.
The suspect is at the Belhar police station and will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Monday, 06 February 2023.

In an unrelated incident, a joint intelligence-driven operation between the police’s Public Order Policing, Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Affairs, SANParks, and a private company led to the arrest of two suspects and confiscation of abalone on Friday, 3 February 2023 in West End, Gqeberha.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Jansen Van Rensburg said a search warrant was issued to search business premises in West End. When police searched the place, they discovered a total of 7 388 units of abalone and a green Toyota bakkie with an estimated value of R1.8 million.

Jansen Van Rensburg said police arrested a 59-year-old and 30-year-old suspect. They face charges for illegally possessing abalone and will appear in the Gqeberha magistrate on Monday, 6 February 2023.
