Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Lebogang Maile has called for Economic Freedom Fighters provincial leader Mandisa Mashego to appear in court for her statements regarding the Alex demolition saga.

Alexandra demolition saga

The whole situation began in late May 2019 when the Red Ants Security Relocation and Eviction Services company descended on Alex and began knocking down 80 homes that were built in the area illegally.

This kicked off an epic round of the Politics: The Blame Game.

Lodging a complaint

It was this last point that was a step too far for Maile. He claims Mashego slandered his person directly and is seeking compensation for damages caused.

“I have been insulted in my personal capacity as Lebogang Maile. I remember the lady in question saying she wants to ‘address this thug Lebogang Maile’, so she was addressing me. So this is in my private capacity,” he told eNCA outside the police station in Alexandra.

“Firstly the accusations are baseless. Secondly, they are damaging to my reputation, image, and integrity. So I will not take them lightly.

“This is what they always do. Insult people, spread lies, and pull populous stunts to get support and it’s not going to happen at my expense.”

Any compensation he is awarded by the courts, he claims, will all go towards developing Alexandra.

“There are two things. I want her arrested and charged, so I will get a case number today, I will be told who is managing the case and will be sitting on his or her neck to ensure that she is charged and she appears in court,” Maile said.

“I want her in court at least next week.

“And the second process we are writing to her today to start the civil lawsuit process, it has its own procedures. So once we’ve done that, we will then put a price on what we want and whatever money we want from both the EFF and Mandisa, it is money we are going to donate to the people of Alexandra to develop this place.”
