Magashule throws towel in with Zuma, slams Mbeki

Certainly, the embattled African National Congress politician has pitted Mbeki against his successor former president Jacob Zuma.

Commenting on the matter outside of the Bloemfontein High Court, Magashule voiced his displeasure over Mbeki’s engagements with fellow ANC members in the province.

Additionally, the secretary-general even accused those who attended the gatherings of bad-mouthing ANC leadership. In line with this, Magashule called upon branches to take a stand against leaders attempting to destroy the ANC.

Meanwhile, Magashule is currently facing serious corruption charges relating to a controversial 2014 asbestos housing project. The project in question took place during  Magashule’s time as the Premier of the Free State province.

Zuma receives expected endorsement from embattled former Premier

The historical tension between Mbeki and Zuma is as well documented as Magashule’s support of Msholozi. Unsurprisingly, the secretary-general echoed similar sentiments over the former president who has reemerged in the public spotlight.

“Zuma made people who said bad things about him ministers. That’s leadership. And Zuma never said his vote is a secret and all that,” Ace Magashule

Magashule slams renewal project over Zuma’s exclusion

Furthermore, Magashule has condemned a renewal project within ANC ranks which fails to include Zuma and Matthews Phosa as nothing more than a ‘factional gathering’. The suspended ANC veteran called on ANC members to beware of leaders who are attempting to destroy the ANC from within.

This comes as Mbeki attempts to, according to some, revive his legacy within the ruling party in plain view of the South African public. This includes provincial engagements, an appearance at its most recent manifesto and even the 2022 State of the Nation Address.
