The Gauteng police have arrested a teenage suspect in connection with a murder and rape, which took place on Saturday night, 7 May, at Madala Hostel in Kagiso.

TEENAGE RAPE AND MURDER SUSPECT NABBED

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said a complaint of rape near the hostel was received.

When officers arrived at the scene near the corner of Kagiso Avenue and Leeuw Street they found the woman who had been raped.

“The victim alleged that she was accosted by three unknown suspects who demanded cash and her cell phone at gunpoint.

“They thereafter dragged her to an open space near the hostel and took turns raping her,” said Sibiya.

The victim said she saw a man walking past as she was being attacked and screamed for help.

When the man tried to help – the suspects attacked him and stabbed him to death.

The woman showed police where the 38-year-old man’s body was lying. He had multiple stab wounds and a large rock was lying nearby.

The police launched a manhunt and an 18-year-old hostel resident was arrested by the Kagiso SAPS and charged with rape and murder. His two accomplices remain at large.

“Kagiso Police are urging and appealing to members of the public who know their whereabouts to call Police Crime Stop on 08600-10111 or Kagiso SAPS on 011-696-9059/65/67,” said Sibiya.
