The murder trial of Dr Louis Siemens is being heard at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court and the State has already fired up damning evidence that places Accused 1 (Stanley Bakili) near the crime scene minutes before the doctor was killed.

What happened to Dr Louis Siemens?

Bakili, along with seven others, has been charged with the cold-blooded killing of Dr Louis Siemens, a prominent figure in Free State’s private healthcare economy.

Siemens, co-founder of CityMed, was gunned down in the basement parking lot of Preller Square, in 2018. it is believed Bakili, his business associate, orchestrated the hit.

The State has reason to believe that Bakili contracted the services of two hitmen, Mojalefa Molosi and Xolisile Mbebetho, to kill Siemens in exchange for R200 000.

At that time, financial records show that Siemens had paid Stanley something to the effect of R6.5-million and had apparently put an end to their bribery arrangement.

State places Bakili near crime scene

In the first week of the Louis Siemens trial, the State has already presented damning evidence that places Bakili in the vicinity of the crime scene minutes before the doctor was gunned down.

The State has submitted CCTV footage into evidence, showing Bakili at a restaurant with Siemens only moments before he was gunned down.

The footage clearly showed Siemens signing documents at the meeting. The State’s argument is that the last moments of his interaction with Bakili, are closely tied to the motive behind the murder.

it is alleged that Stanley, who had allegedly been extorting Siemens, may have ordered a hit on the doctor after he had refused to further his commitment of paying bribe monies for his business’ licensing.

The State is believed to have 52 witnesses that it will present to the court, including Xolisile Mbebetho who has already pleaded guilty to the murder. He is currently serving his 22-year prison sentence.

The suspects allegedly involved in killing Siemens include:

  • Stanley – the business associate tipped to be the prime suspect and mastermind of the hit;
  • Constable Kagiso Chabane;
  • Constable Molebatsi Mogoera;
  • IT technician, Sizwe Mpati;
  • Clive Mandeni Tshivenga;
  • Mojalefa Molosi;
  • Xolisile Mbebetho; and
  • former Advocate Karabo Tau
