Local man killed while fighting to save girlfriend from 6 rapists
A truly horiffic incident.
Another shocking rape incident is making local news. A man in Durban has been killed while attempting to defend his 21-year-old girlfriend from 6 men who were trying to gang-rape her. The news comes after a week of nationwide campaigns and marches against the abuse and mistreatment of women.
IOL reports that the boyfriend died at the scene while his girlfriend was taken to an undisclosed hospital with severe injuries. The incident took place as the couple were walking close to the Umgeni River Bird Park on Friday evening. The park is regularly used for walking and cycling.
The gang arrived and reportedly jumped out of a Quantum minibus taxi, the boyfriend then attempted to protect his partner. The gang then killed him, paramedics later arrived on the scene and certified him dead. ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak spoke to IOL about the incident.
“The paramedics found the man with fatal injuries.
“There was nothing that they could do for him and he was declared dead.
“The woman was treated and taken to the hospital,”
Police immediately called on the public to provide any information relating to the whereabouts of the minibus vehicle. SAPS Spokesperson Captian Nqobile Gwala says that they are hoping to make an arrest soon.
“The investigations are continuing. We are appealing to anyone who might have information about the suspects to contact the local police station,”
