Lindiwe Sisulu has continuously opposed Jacob Zuma and his shady dealings with the Gupta family. However, she’s been forced to reject claims that she accepted an invitation to meet the billionaires two years ago.
Thanks to the endless trove of emails still emerging from the #GuptaLeaks scandal, a document has appeared that seemingly suggests Sisulu wasn’t above socialising with the Indian brothers.
Did Lindiwe Sisulu fraternise with the enemy?
It is alleged that an e-mail sent by Oakbay CEO Nazeem Howa to Atul Gupta shows a list of politicians who accepted invitations to meet the Guptas. Sisulu’s name appears alongside Mosebenzi Zwane, Malusi Gigaba and Faith Muthambi: All key players in the state capture allegations.

A spokesperson for the Human Settlements Minister has labelled the claims as ‘sinister’. Her and her team feel that the document has been edited as part of a smear campaign against Sisulu
“The email is sinister and an obvious smear campaign against her. We just want to place it on record that there is no such and the minister has never been in a situation where she accepted any invitation form the family. She also never attended any event related to the family.”
What are Lindiwe Sisulu’s chances of being the next ANC leader?
Sisulu is one of the ANC members who has thrown her hat in the ring to succeed Jacob Zuma. It’s entirely possible that she’s already the victim of the oldest game in the book: Politics.
So far, Sisulu has based the early stages of her campaign as an opposing force to Jacob Zuma. However, he’s since he earmarked his ex-wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to replace him. On this basis, Cyril Ramaphosa’s campaign took on the same message, and gained more traction.
It seems the ANC leadership race is taking on two very distinct identities: You’re either with the Zumas, or against them.
