As reported by Mia Lindeque from Eyewitness News, all passengers and the driver of the minibus died on the scene. The passengers in the Quantum minibus were returning from Youth Day celebrations in Limpopo on Sunday.

Limpopo police’s Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe told reporters that the bus driver and two bus passengers sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

It is believed that the accident happened between Mooketsi and Giyani at around 22:00. One driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with the other vehicle” on a sharp curve.

According to Capricorn FM, Deputy Minister of Transport Dikeledi Magadzi and Limpopo MEC Dickson Masemola will visit the scene of the accident later today.

Masemola took to Twitter earlier today to express “heartfelt condolences to the families of [the] departed 24 young lives.” The post was accompanied by the following caption:

“May the souls of the 24 young people, who died tragically in a collision on Sunday evening, Rest in Peace.”

Limpopo police confirmed that the deceased include three children and a woman who was believed to be pregnant.

Authorities from Modjadjiskloof confirmed that a case of culpable homicide will be investigated. Acting Limpopo police commissioner Major-General Jan Scheepers said “the police would leave no stone unturned.”

Masemola warned residents to be vigilant on the road as traffic volumes between Limpopo and Gauteng are expected to increase. He said:

“We expect an increase in traffic volumes out of the province from early afternoon today (Monday). This may lead to congestion at all toll gates. Please allocate enough time for your journey and I appeal to you to be patient on roads.”

On Saturday, six people died in a head-on collision near Dingamazi Villiage, Limpopo. Two people were killed and about 80 others injured in a collision between Letsitele and Gravelotte.
