The Letsistele police arrested an astounding 28 illegal miners at Mulati in the Letsitele policing area just outside Tzaneen.

POLICE CONFISCATED THE EQUIPMENT OF THE MINERS

The suspects, aged between 19 and 51, were arrested during disruptive operations conducted by the local police led by the station commander Colonel Mkansi on Thursday, 23 March 2023.

POLICE ARRESTED 28 ILLEGAL MINERS

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commends the team for working tirelessly to eradicate illegal mining activities in the province.

THE MINERS ARE REMANDED IN CUSTODY

Mojapelo said the arrested illegal miners are due to appear in the Ritavi Magistrates Court on charges of illegal mining. The suspects are remanded in custody.

According to Mojapelo, the police investigations are still ongoing.

The police say their ongoing disruptive operations against illegal mining continue to yield positive results. This is evident in the latest arrest of 28 illegal miners the Letsistele police arrested this week.
