Man arrested for killing Cape Town gang leader and his son, 11

The father and son were killed in their Lavender Hill home on Friday. The 22-year-old suspect was nabbed on Monday night.

The Cape Town Anti-Gang Unit made a breakthrough in the alleged murder of a suspected gang leader and his 11-year-old son on Monday evening, 5 September. The father and son were killed in their Lavender Hill home on Friday.

CAPE TOWN GANG DETECTIVES MAKE ARREST

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the shooting took place in Shepherd Way, Lavender Hill and Anti-Gang Unit detectives were tasked with investigating the double murder.

According to News24, the deceased was Cheslin Nelson – the 42-year-old leader of the Fast Gun gang in the area. Lavender Hill community members were on edge in the wake of the shooting over fears of a retaliatory outbreak of gang violence.

 A 22-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the alleged double murder on Monday after a tracing operation led detectives to an address in Cradock Road, Steenberg. Once he is charged he is expected to appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
