COVID-19 latest: Over 17 000 new cases, deaths up by 453 on 14 July

COVID-19 cases have spiked once again on Wednesday 14 July, with over 17 000 new infections reported and 453 people confirmed dead.

The latest COVID-19 figures released by acting Health Minister Mmamaloko Kubayi-Ngubane on Wednesday evening report that cases have increased by 17 489 in the last 24-hours, meaning that the total number of infections that have been accumulatively reported since March 2020 has risen to 2 236 805. 

Sadly, over the last 24-hours alone, a further 453 people have died from COVID-19, meaning that a total of 65 595 people have succumbed to the virus since the first death in March 2020. 

A total of 1 970 516 have recovered having tested positive for COVID-19, representing  a recovery rate of 88.2%.

The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded in each province as of Wednesday 14 July

  • Eastern Cape – 215 663 cases;
  • Free State – 121 325 cases;
  • Gauteng –  792 130 cases;
  • KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) – 372 793 cases;
  • Limpopo – 961 116 cases;
  • Mpumalanga – 109 301 cases;
  • North West – 113 019 cases;
  • Northern Cape – 62 334 cases;
  • Western Cape – 354 124 cases, and
  • Unallocated –  0 cases, 0 deaths.
