COVID-19 latest: Cases up by 10 496, deaths rise to 4 346.

COVID-19 cases have risen to a total of 298 292, with a further 174 people having succumbed to the deadly virus in the last 24-hours.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced on Tuesday 14 July that COVID-19 cases again rose significantly in the last 24-hours, with 10 496 new cases reported since Monday.

South Africa has now recorded 298 292 COVID-19 cases in total since the pandemic hit our shores in March.

The death toll climbed to 174, bringing the total number of casualties resulting from the deadly virus to 4 346.

As of this evening, 146 279 people have recovered from the virus, meaning that there are 152 013 active patients suffering from COVID-19 at the present moment.

A total of 2 232 738 tests have been conducted, with 38 114 people tested in the last 24-hours alone.

Provincial COVID-19 cases:

The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been detected in each province as of Wednesday 24 June: 

  • Gauteng – 107 070cases;
  • Western Cape – 80 199 cases; 
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 30 587 cases; 
  • Free State – 5 973cases; 
  • Eastern Cape – 53 959 cases; 
  • Limpopo – 3 458 cases; 
  • Mpumalanga – 4 576cases; 
  • North West – 10 786 cases; 
  • Northern Cape – 1 579 cases; and 
  • Unknown – 107 cases. 

COVID-19 DEATH TOLL BY PROVINCE AS OF MONDAY

The following confirmed COVID-19-related deaths have been detected in each province as of Monday: 

  • Eastern Cape – 726 deaths;
  • Free State – 35 deaths;
  • Gauteng – 726 deaths;
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 313 deaths;
  • Limpopo – 33 deaths;
  • Mpumalanga – 33 deaths;
  • North West – 36 deaths; 
  • Northern Cape – 15 deaths;
  • Western Cape – 2 429 deaths. 

LATEST RECOVERIES BY PROVINCE 

Mkhize announced the latest COVID-19 recoveries as follows: 

  • Eastern Cape – 34 706 recoveries;
  • Free State – 746 recoveries;
  • Gauteng – 36 146 recoveries;
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 7 521 recoveries;
  • Limpopo – 1 147 recoveries;
  • Mpumalanga – 1 179 recoveries;
  • North West – 2 575 recoveries;
  • Northern Cape – 503 recoveries; and
  • Western Cape – 61 756 recoveries.
