COVID-19 latest: Cases up by 1 504 on Monday 20 September

The Department of Health reported that a further 42 people have died from COVID-19 related illnesses over the past 24-hours.

The latest COVID-19 figures released by Health Minister Joe Phaahla and the Department of Health on Monday evening report that cases have increased by 1 504 in the last 24-hours, meaning that the total number of infections that have been accumulatively reported since March 2020 has risen to 2 884 134. 

Sadly, over the last 24-hours alone, a further 42 people have died from COVID-19, meaning that a total of 86 216 people have succumbed to the virus since the first death in March 2020. 

A total of 2 735 340 have recovered having tested positive for COVID-19, representing a positivity rate of 7%.

Provincial COVID-19 case breakdown Monday 20 September:

The following number of confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded in each province over the last 24-hours on Monday 20 September:

  • Eastern Cape – 174 new cases;
  • Free State – 217 new cases;
  • Gauteng – 113 new cases; 
  • KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) – 391 new cases;
  • Limpopo – 14 new cases; 
  • Mpumalanga – 43 cases;
  • North West – 59 new cases; 
  • Northern Cape – 338 new cases;
  • Western Cape – 155 cases; and
  • Unallocated –  0 cases, 0 deaths.
