Two people have reportedly died and 10 others are missing due to the flooding and inclement weather conditions in KZN.

A female and three minors who were in a vehicle were allegedly swept off a bridge in Flamingo Heights in Tongaat, KZN on Monday night.
Two fatalities in the eThekwini Metro ward 47 (KwaMashu) and 87 (uMlazi) with two people missing after their car was swept away in Molweni also on Monday.
Heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in most parts of KZN. Many residents were forced to evacuate their homes due to flooding and mudslides.
Reaction Officers & RUSA Medics responded to a call for assistance after residents witnessed an orange Toyota Auris being swept away.
“A female with three minor children were allegedly in the vehicle. The river burst its banks following heavy rainfall in KZN.
“Motorists are urged not to travel unnecessarily due to roads being flooded. Reaction Officers have attended to nearly 175 calls of flooding this afternoon. The RUSA Helicopter was unable to lift off and assist with any rescue operations due to zero visibility.”

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) had issued an orange level 5 warning on Monday, 11 April.
According to the warning widespread showers and rain were expected over the eastern parts of KZN.
“Significant amounts of rainfall already observed in areas along the coast and reports of flooding on the roads,” said the weather service.
As expected the disruptive rainfall lasted throughout the day and more flooding was anticipated along the coast and adjacent interior.
