The KZN pastor accused of rape and sexual assault appeared in court before the weekend and has abandoned his bid for bail.

The KZN pastor accused of raping and sexually assaulting a number of minors has abandoned his bid for bail.

The pastor made his first court appearance on Friday

On Friday, 23 September, the pastor made his first appearance at the Nquthu Regional Court. He faced five counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

The KwaZulu-Natal Social Development Department says that the pastor allegedly lured the children to watch cartoons before playing explicit content. This reportedly happened over a period of one year.

The case has been postponed to next month

Spokesperson for the Department Mhlaba Memela has urged community members who are aware of other incidents to report them.

The MEC encourages the parent that they must be friends with their children and listen to what their children say because it is shocking that it only came out on Sunday. But we what to encourage the community that they come together and work with the social workers,” said Memela.

The case has been postponed to October, reports ECR News.

It was previously reported that a 56-year-old KZN pastor has been arrested for allegedly raping over 13 children. Reports have revealed that the children are between the ages of five and 17. The incidents occurred in Luvisi Village in the Nquthu Local Municipality.

The pastor was caught when a boy reported the matter to his mother and provided details of the other victims. His mother went on to verify this information with other victims before she reported it to the police.

The KZN Department of Social Development stated that the pastor allegedly lured the children to watch cartoons before playing explicit content that he watched with the children. It is alleged that there were 11 boys and two girls. Read the full story here.
