KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala has welcomed the recognition of King-Elect, Prince Misuzulu Zulu as the king of the AmaZulu nation by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Zulu was officially recognised by Ramaphosa on Wednesday 16 March 2022, in terms of Section 8(3)(a) and (b) of the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act, 2019.

‘RECOGNITION OF KING-ELECT MISUZULU WILL BRING PEACE’

The decision follows the passing of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini Zulu in March 2021 and the subsequent passing away of the Regent, Queen Mantfombi Dlamini, in April 2021.

Zikalala said the long awaited decision brings down the curtain to months of uncertainty over the issue of Kingship following the untimely demise of His Majesty King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu. It will bring stability and certainty regarding the Zulu throne.

Zikalala also said the Zulu Kingdom occupies a special place within the global community because of the heroic deeds of a succession of Kings who fought valiantly for the restoration of the dignity of the African people.

“We have no doubt that King Misuzulu as he has already started doing will walk in the footsteps of his forefathers by being a champion and torchbearer of unity, peace and development and ensuring that the Kingdom becomes a positive force to work with the government to fight the social challenges facing our nation.

“This is indeed a seminal moment in the history of the Zulu nation.”

Sihle Zikalala

Zikalala said they call on everyone to accept the decision of the president and that everyone unites behind the King and the entire Royal Family.

He added that the provincial government will continue to update the nation on every matter pertaining to enthronement of the King.

“In due course after all consultations are concluded the Provincial Government will update on all matters within its line of responsibilities.”

President Ramaphosa conveyed his warmest wishes to His Majesty King Misuzulu Zulu on the occasion of his legal recognition as King of AmaZulu Kingship.
