The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Education announced that all schools in areas affected by the devastating floods have been temporarily closed, on Wednesday, 13 April.

KZN SCHOOLS IN FLOOD AREAS CLOSED TEMPORARILY

The KZN education department said the flooding has caused huge disruptions and continues to have a negative on teaching and learning at schools and remains a threat to the lives of pupils and teachers.

“The terrain and level of water has made it extremely difficult for teachers and pupils to reach the schools.

“At some areas it is extremely dangerous to access schools as pupils and teachers are forced to cross high levels of water,” said the department.

With this in mind, all schools in the flood-hit areas are closed until Tuesday, 19 April.

The department said it will continue to monitor the situation across the province and called on parents and guardians to cooperate with the school authorities “and continuously monitor the levels of the water in their respective areas.”

The department added that contingency plans that will mitigate the impact of the flood are in the works.
