GARTH SIMPSON BAIL APPLICATION CONTINUES

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said Simpson, 68, is accused of allegedly murdering 17-year-old Qiniso Dlamini on 28 September. The teenager and his relatives were reportedly tracking their cattle and found them on Simpson’s farm, which is where a fatal altercation broke out. The incident was captured on video and has since been widely circulated on social media.

Ramkisson-Kara said Simpson also faces charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. His appearance before the Glencoe Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday was his second appearance before the court.

“The matter was remanded to 14 October 2021 for the continuation of the bail application,” said the NPA spokesperson.

Dlamini’s family – and members of the community – wants Simpson’s bail application to be denied, according to eNCA. A group of protestors gathered outside the Glencoe Court ahead of the trial on Tuesday.

Sduduzo Mdluli, the mayor of Endumeni, where the incident took place, said that tensions in the area are rising and called on calm in the community. “Endumeni is a very peaceful community. We’ve had reports about issues between farm dwellers and farm owners. But a situation as brutal as this, we have not had in the past two or three decades,” said Mdluli.
