Abahlali baseMjondolo shares words of praise for slain leader

Mnguni was also the chairperson of the local Abahlali baseMjondolo – an organisation that aims to protect the rights of those residing in shacks. Members of the organisation have viewed Mnguni’s death as a political one.

The group describe Mnguni as a ‘powerful intellectual with a mind like a razor’.

“He was a young man with real vision and commitment, a brave man whose will to struggle was not broken by six months in prison, long periods in hiding and having to bury two close comrades this year,” read a post on Facebook.

The organisation believes that whoever killed Mnguni also killed previous leaders Ayanda Ngila who died in March and Nokuthula Mabaso who died in May.
