Kwa-Zulu Natal: A joyful mothe

A 21-year-old mother, Vuyisile Simamane, whose baby was abducted in June informed that the baby, Luyanda, has been discharged from the hospital since Monday

What condition was baby Luyanda found in?

The news comes after the three-month-old baby boy was found on Thursday, unharmed but in poor health. Police found Luyanda in a Lamontville, Durban, house. He was directly admitted to GJ Crooks Hospital, in Scottburgh, due to his concerning state.

Simamane, who was getting treated for depression at the same hospital, was discharged that day and went to stay with Luyanda in the appropriate ward. At a loss for words out of sheer joy and nothing else, she could only utter that

“he is now well and healthy and I’m also well and healthy.”

When was baby Luyanda abducted?

The abduction occurred in Mnamfu, Mthwalume, KwaZulu-Natal, on 2 June.
At around 10pm, Luyanda was taken from his mother’s arms while she slept. It is only upon waking up around 6.30am, the next morning, that Simamane realised her baby was gone.

She initially suspected her cousin and his girlfriend, who were visiting. They were absent, along with her son, when she woke up, despite having watched TV together the previous evening.

Who was responsible for the abduction of baby Luyanda?

Police stated that two suspects, a 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, were arrested for the kidnapping. The man was arrested on Thursday and made his court appearance on Monday. His case was remanded to 16 July for the bail application.

Although the girl was also arrested in Lamontville on Monday, she was released in parental custody.

“She appeared today (Tuesday) in the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court and the case was remanded to 16 July,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel, Thulani Zwane.

The case of kidnapping will continue in court at the aforementioned dates.
