‘Mo Money Mo Problems’ for Kempton Park SAPS in bribery clip [Watch]

A video of a man seemingly bribing a SAPS officer in Kempton Park has gone viral online as SAns try to wrap their heads around it.

President of the African Transformation Movement (ATM) Vuyolwethu Zungula shared a shocking clip involving the SAPS on the Twitter TL.

In the 43-second video, a few men can be seen standing around a SAPS vehicle. One man is leaning over the passenger side of the car. While a man in a jacket, standing beside him, seems to be in a heated conversation with whoever is seated inside the SAPS vehicle.

SAPS take bribes from unknown men

Around 31 seconds into the video the man in a jacket pulls out his wallet and starts looking through it. It seems as though he grabbed a few notes before leaning towards the SAPS vehicle.

He hands the money over to the person in the car before closing his wallet and placing it back into his pocket. The man in the jacket then walks away from the police car as the other man continues to lean over the vehicle.

The short video has gained a whopping 201,500 views on Twitter. 

Social media users respond to the incident

Social media users did not seem too surprised at the fact that the SAPS seemingly accepted a bribe. 

@leadershipitaly said about the video:

“When is the motion of no confidence against Ramaphosa taking place? We want him out asap. I hope u have done the groundwork from ur side to convince the MP voters.”

@Christo90sikhau wrote in response to the SAPS’ actions:

“We have no police in this country.” 

@funkyngwenya shared:

“Dear South Africans we must normalize videotaping SAPS when they are involved in crime. No more silence.”

Hefty sentence for bribe-taking cops in Western Cape

In similar news, two police officers were sentenced to hefty direct imprisonment in the Western Cape after they accepted bribes to return cannabis they confiscated during a search and seizure. 

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the court sentenced Gerald Nolan van Nel and Justin Mthetheleli Mhlontlo to an effective five years imprisonment each, after their conviction on a charge of corruption. 

The court sentenced the two members of the South African Police Services (SAPS), who were based in Oceanview to ten years imprisonment. Read the full story here.
