Kelly Khumalo is rumoured to be replaced by KB for Lebo Mathosa biopic

Kelly Khumalo has reportedly stepped down from starring in The Lebo Mathosa Story, that will air on BET Africa, and Keabetswe “KB” Motsililanyane, has stepped in to replace her.

What caused Kelly Khumalo to “ditch” the role?

There are questions whether Khumalo quit, or was fired, and an insider confirmed to the City Press that Kelly ditched the show because she was “not happy” with the amount of money being offered.

“She has been complaining to the producers of the show about how unhappy she was with the money she was offered, but I guess they failed to meet her demands, this might be one of the reasons why she left. On Monday, Kelly was seen at the premises of The Pyramid Day Spa in Johannesburg, where a few scenes were shot, but she was not part of the production, that was the last time we saw her”.

More rumours have surfaced alleging Khumalo was fired from production for being a “diva”, the songstress is accused of making difficult demands on set, and further refusing to share wardrobe items with other actors.

This supposedly made it “difficult” to shoot, the MTV Base and BET Africa VP, Monde Thwala, has confirmed that the cast for The Lebo Mathosa Story is confirmed and production has been finalised as shooting has been initiated in various locations in Gauteng.

KB is rumoured to be replacing Kelly after being spotted near the show’s production

The option to replace Khumalo with KB was deemed “fitting”, and reports claim that catching up for KB will be effortless as she was already spotted at The Pyramid Day Spa during days of shooting.

KB started her acting career in popular etv show called Backstage, and has starred on Rhythm City, 7de Laan, and has a music career outside her acting endeavours.

What is The Lebo Mathosa Story?

BET Africa is creating a six-part series of The Lebo Mathosa Story, which will detail the rock-star life of the late kwaito princess, Lebo Mathosa, who passed away 13 years ago.

After being discovered at 14 years old by the iconic Don Laka, he then put her in the popular kwaito group, Boom Shaka.

In the 90s, Boom Shaka was one of South Africa’s most successful groups, and it consisted of Theo Nhlengethwa, Lebo Mathosa, Thembi Seete and Junior Sokhela, and the group’s greatest anthem was their first single titled “About Time.”
