Five years later and people still believe that Kelly Khumalo had some involvement with the murder of Senzo Meyiwa, the late Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

The famous singer was booked to perform at an Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) campaign rally at Chatsworth Stadium, in Kwa-Zulu Natal, on Sunday.

Why did Kelly Khumalo walk off stage?

Khumalo got on stage and rocked the crowd for what appeared to only be two songs before she walked off stage.

The audio of the footage was too poor to hear the “justice for Senzo” chants but people claim that this was the reason for her walking off the stage. Khumalo would later corroborate this in an interview she had with eNCA on Monday.

How Khumalo got implicated in Meyiwa’s murder

In 2014, South Africa’s footballing community was rocked by the news of Meyiwa’s death.

The incident occurred at Khumalo’s residence. Suspects allegedly entered the premises and held Khumalo and Meyiwa at gunpoint with the intent to rob the couple.

At some point in the altercation, Meyiwa suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Khumalo somehow managed to survive the incident without being hurt in any way.

However, she has not been able to assist in identifying the suspects, something that has always raised questions about her role in the murder.

During her interview with eNCA, Khumalo admitted that she did not know how else to prove to people that she had no involvement in her late partner’s murder.

She revealed that the investigators had collected fingerprint evidence from the crime scene, as well as one of the suspects’ beanie, which held traces of DNA evidence. Yet, somehow — she said — people are expecting her to uncover the faces behind the ruthless murder of a football icon.
