A 38-year-old man employed by a Gauteng security company allegedly hijacked a motorist with a licensed firearm in the early hours of Tuesday, 3 May.

SECURITY GUARD ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED HIJACKING

Katlehong police officers came across the hijacking victim while patrolling the area at approximately 1:00.

After flagging down the officers, the man told them how he was hijacked by four African males. He said one of the alleged hijackers levelled a firearm at him and wore a reflector jacket.

The four suspects fled from the victim’s home in Ramokonopi East in his Audi A4 vehicle.

“Police took him to the Police Station in order to open a hijacking case,” said South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili.

“While on their way to the Police Station, the victim saw the same gunman [waiting] on the street.”

The suspect was stopped and searched and a silver pistol was found in his possession.

The hijacking victim identified the suspect, who lives at Buyafuthi Hostel, as the person who allegedly took his vehicle at gunpoint earlier.

The police later discovered that the gun is licensed and registered in the suspect’s name. He is a security officer at a company known to SAPS, said Muridili.

The arrested suspect is detained at the Katlehong Police Station and is expected to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on charges of hijacking imminently.

Meanwhile, the hunt for the vehicle and the three remaining suspects continues and the seized firearm will be sent for ballistic testing.
