The alleged ‘bully’ who was filmed beating up Lufuno Mavhungu – just hours before her suicide – has been arrested on Wednesday, and now faces a set of official police charges. The girl cannot be named for legal reasons, but she is the prime suspect in a case which led to Lufuno taking her own life earlier this week.

The victim, aged 15, purposefully overdosed on pills following the incident on Monday. She was discovered by her distraught mother, after the teen had locked herself away in a bedroom. The girl was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, Lufuno was pronounced dead upon arrival. The authorities have spent the last 48 hours investigating this incident.

Sure enough, they made a breakthrough earlier in the day. A schoolgirl, believed to be the same age as her late classmate, was cuffed after a case was officially registered in Thohoyandou. Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, made a brief statement to the media about this arrest:

“Police have opened an inquest docket after Lufuno’s alleged suicide. We can confirm that we have arrested the schoolgirl on Wednesday, after a case of assault was opened on Wednesday morning at a local police station in Thohoyandou.”
