Three people were killed and at least 70 others injured when the bus they were travelling in rolled on the N1 north on Monday morning.
According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, the accident happened approximately 40km outside Polokwane, Limpopo.
“ER24, the Provincial EMS and several other services arrived at 06h30 to find a bus upright on the side of the road. Numerous passengers were seen walking around on the scene while others were seated inside the bus,” he said.
Meiring said paramedics set up a triage area and began to tend to the patients.
“On assessment, medics found that two women and a man had sustained fatal injuries in the rollover. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead.”
At least seventy other patients were assessed and found to have sustained minor to serious.
All the injured patients were treated and transported to nearby hospitals by various services.
Meiring said the details surrounding this incident were unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
