Four armed men attacked staff members at the SPCA in Sandton on Tuesday morning.

Yes, we have all asked that mind-boggling question – who would rob an SPCA?

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE ARMED ROBBERY?

According to Sandton SPCA general manager Meg Wilson, the four armed men gained entry to the premises at around 8:05.

“The four armed men held up the staff member at the access gate and stole his wallet and phone. Two armed men then proceeded to the office,” she said.

Wilson said the men told reception that they wanted to see dogs and adopt a dog.

STAFF MEMBER ATTACKED IN VEHICLE

“We suspect that they decided not to follow through on their plans as we had many staff members walking in and out of the reception area. The men were then seen outside where they were joined by the other two armed men.

“As they were standing there, our receptionist came driving in, and they attacked and tried to hijack her.”

Wilson said in the attack, the men hit the receptionist in the face with the gun while they broke her wrist. They also bit her on the finger in an attempt to get her ring off her finger.

THEY TOOK OFF AS THE STAFF CAME CHARGING

“We heard her screams outside, and all staff came running to help her. The men took off with only the phone and wallet that they had stolen earlier,” she said.

“Two of our staff were physically attacked and are receiving the necessary medical care. We will need to beef up security, and this will come at a cost. If you are able to make a contribution (big or small – every cent helps) towards our Security Fund,” she added.
