The Jacob Zuma Foundation said it is ‘concerned’ about the former president’s children with regard to the 2021 July riots.

What did the Jacob Zuma Foundation tweet?

The Foundation took to Twitter to share a post regarding an article that explained how Duduzile Zuma’s name appeared in the Hawks’ investigation into the riots.

“The Foundation is concerned that the persecution of H.E Prez Zuma is now being extended to his children.

“How could poor people without smartphones, data and probably not even on Twitter or literate be said to have been influenced through Twitter? Madness!” read the tweet.

Duduzile also responded to news of the probe

Since the news broke, Duduzile shared a response of her own. She tweeted an image of herself in which she stated that she is a daughter of a great man, adding that she will not be intimidated.

“My Name Is Dudu Zuma. I Am A Daughter Of A Great Man, The G.O.A.T Of Politics, Jacob Zuma. His Blood Runs Through My Veins…I HAVE NO FEAR! I Will Not Be Intimidated! I Have Beaten The Dogs, Now The Masters Are Coming Out! WE SEE YOU!!!” read the tweet.

Duduzile notably shared posts on social media of people participating in riots with the words ‘we see you’.

In terms of the investigations into the July unrest, 22 people have so far appeared in court for instigating the riots. The accused were each granted bail of R3 000 and the matter was adjourned to 26 August.

Hawks investigating Duduzile’s role

Previously, it was reported that the Hawks have confirmed they are looking into whether Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, the daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, was involved in last year’s July riots.

Zuma-Sambudla posted a series of controversial tweets during the period of the unrest, some of which were deemed inciteful and inflammatory. She had been taking to social media to express gratitude to those who protested, in support of her father.

It was the former president’s arrest which essentially sparked the violence as many in KwaZulu-Natal had taken to the streets to demand his release, but the protests soon morphed into looting sprees which also spread to Gauteng. Zuma-Sambudla’s name even came up during the South African Human Rights Commission‘s own probe into the July violence. Read the full story here.
