A sensational new book which claims the relationship between the EFF and South African’s second-richest man – Johann Rupert – is an incredibly cosy one hits the shelves this week. Indeed, the devastating repercussions have already been felt, after Floyd Shivambu was alleged to have pleaded with Rupert for funding.
The publication, titled Stellenbosch Mafia: Inside the Billionaire’s Club, details how the wealthiest people in the country made their money, and how they apparently use their power and influence to get what they want. The book may seem like a dream piece of literature for the EFF, but this whole saga may now morph into a horror story.
Rather than affirming party claims that “white monopoly capital” is running Mzansi, it actually fires some pretty devastating shots towards the EFF’s executives. The man copping the most damage is Deputy President Floyd Shivambu, who has been accused of enjoying a warm relationship with Johann Rupert, despite preaching a different ideology.
Its about Stellenbosch, its history and Afrikaner nationalism, its about old money and new, ‘inkommers’ and rugby. And an attempt to answer the question: does the Stellenbosch Mafia exist? @JonathanBallPub pic.twitter.com/HTmMCa56pV

Shivambu and his fellow red berets have often labelled Rupert’s Stellenbosch-based investment company as “an enemy” of the working class and of poor black citizens in South Africa. But some of the book’s claims – published by News24 – paint an astoundingly alternative relationship:
Although Floyd Shivambu has denied that the party received money from Johann Rupert, he has not yet dismissed claims that their meeting in the Western Cape took place. The allegations have drawn ire from many EFF officials, including the top-dog himself: Julius Malema was less than happy with the revelations:
What’s this now? You never stop with your rubbish. I think you wanted to say Solly Mapaila.

It’s been quite a week for Johann Rupert, too. The multi-billionaire was accused of threatening to “tank the Rand” back in 2017, according to Jacob Zuma’s testimony at the State Capture Inquiry. Although, Msholozi also wanted us to believe he played no part in government corruption and he’s the victim of an elaborate conspiracy. So, you know, swings and roundabouts…
