Jozi ranks as one of the 40 most economically powerful cities in the world

The City of Gold beat out Paris, Munich and Moscow and also comes in at number one in Africa for economic power; how about them apples?

Jozi ranks as one of the 40 mo

According to BusinessTech, the 2015 Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) report ranks London as the most economically powerful city in the world; with New York in second and Hong Kong in third place; but it’s Johannesburg that surprised us the most.

Coming in at number 33 out of 84 leading cities, Jozi ranks higher than Paris, Amsterdam, Moscow and Munich. The report used data from the UN, World Economic Forum as well as surveys of more than 3200 financial services professionals.

The GFCI takes a look at five areas of competitiveness, namely:

  • The business environment
  • Financial sector development
  • Infrastructure
  • Human capital
  • Reputational and general factors

Now, we’re not even close to the top of the list, but we’re doing better than loads of others and much better than any other African city.
