The City of Johannesburg warned that several of its reservoirs and water towers are at a critical level because of high demand. It is the second day of the 54-hour planned maintenance by Rand Water, which started on Monday, 15 November.

JOHANNESBURG RESERVES AND TOWERS RUNNING LOW

The City said that the Rand Water Meredale reservoir is currently at a critical level – just before midday on Tuesday – due to high consumption.

The Meredale reservoir supplies Johannesburg Water reservoirs and towers in the Soweto area, Crosby, Northcliff, Crown Gardens, Hursthill as well as reservoirs and towers in the Roodepoort area.

The Yeoville reservoir is also impacted by the reduced water supply and high consumption.

“Johannesburg Water urgently requests customers to reduce consumption in order to prevent further systems from being depleted.

“Reduced consumption will assist in the recovery period after the outage,” said the City.

MAINTENANCE ON TRACK

After the first day of maintenance work, the City indicated that everything was on track and that it does not anticipate any delays. If everything goes according to plan, the normal water supply should return to the affected areas around 11:00 on Wednesday, 17 November.

Stationary and roaming tanks are available to residents where necessary.
