Senior ANC sources reportedly said that Zuma is willing to step down in an attempt to recover some of the ruling party’s “integrity.”

The sources told the Mail & Guardian that a secret “exit strategy” is in the pipeline for el presidente, following the Gupta and Constitutional Court scandals of the last few months.

The report comes shortly after the Sunday Times’ similar report, claiming that the top brass in the ANC are working on a plan to get Zuma out. In the report, ANC bigwigs had to the Times that the people behind the plan need to “buy time and only act after the elections”.

They added that they were giving Zuma a “long rope to hang himself”.

According to the Mail & Guardian, The ANC’s NEC will receive a report two weeks from now, outlining the plan forward. That said, earlier today an NEC member said that they had to proceed with caution so as not to “destroy the ANC”.

Many within the ANC have made their feelings on Zuma very clear, with the Gauteng branch taking the lead.

Some members of the ANC in the Free State also made their voices heard, joining a small anti-Zuma march in Bloemfontein .

“In 2007, when other ANC comrades said Zuma must be the president, my region never supported him, and now we have been proven right,” Thokozile Mokoenanyana a regional working committee member, told News24.
