ANC eThekwini councillors are heading off to Nkandla to gift Jacob Zuma with a bull on Thursday. The visit is reportedly to check up on how the embattled former president is doing.

Ntando Khuzwayo, one of the councillors, confirmed the visit with The Witness. Khuzwayo dubbed it a casual call to see if Msholozi is doing well.

“We just want to see him and show him our love and appreciation. When he got out of prison, we were not able to see him because we were still busy with election campaigns,”

Forty Councillors from the eThekwini and Umvoti regions clubbed together to fund the gift. In addition to this, Khuzwayo is uncertain how many ANC members and supporters will join them on the visit.

Zuma’s supporters have a history of generosity

This isn’t the first time Zuma has enjoyed a gift bestowed by his supporters. Ex-SAA chair Dudu Myeni made headlines after spoiling the ex-president with groceries at his Nkandla homestead.

The move had been cheeky considering she had cried poverty just a few months prior. At the time, Myeni needed to travel in order to appear in a Pretoria court. Consequently, Myeni had claimed she couldn’t afford the costs of facing the case to declare her a delinquent director, but her luck seems to have improved.

Another notable gift bestowed upon Zuma ended up in Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s line of vision and even warranted involvement from the Hawks.

Former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo had generously presented Zuma with cattle worth a staggering R1.5 million in 2016. Notably, Sunday Times reported at the time that former EFF secretary-general Godrich Gardee had filed a complaint with the Public Protector.

Subsequently, Mkhwebane had cleared Mahumapelo of any wrongdoing with the report confirming that no state funding had been dished out to for Zuma’s cattle, ‘which would have indicated the Public Protector to investigate and pronounce on that’.
